Blackthorn Road Play Field
Since 2003 the Stifford Community Forum have been looking for funding to regenerate the play field at Blackthorn Road, Stifford Clays. The Forum was successfull in attaining funding from the lottery but due to stringent conditions imposed by the lottery, Thurrock Council could not accept these conditions. The Forum have saved a considerable amount of their yearly budget and with the help of a grant from the Cleanaway Trust of £20,000-00 a total of £75,000-00 has been raised. This year the Forum have with the help of Thurrock Councils Horticultual Dept. nearly completed the project, and on Saturday 27th October there is to be an official opening. The play field will consist of a planted seating area with two trees, there will be a small childs play area with swings, slide ect. to accommadated the older children there is a five aside football pitch and four fixed fitness training units. There is plenty of room for dog walkers as well. The field is now fully fenced and hopefully we can make arrangements to lock the field after dark, if we can have the help from some residents. Below are pictures of the play field before work started and the work carried out so far.
The Stifford Community Forum have been successfull in obtaining another grant from Veolia ET Cleanaway Mardyke Trust of £20,000-00 to carry out more work. At the opening residents suggested some more facilities which were larger swings for the older children, hedge planting to the east boundary to mask the garages, more seating around the field for dog walkers and a notice board. These have been agreed and will be installed in the new year.
