DP World (Dubai Ports)

The New DPWorld port at Coryton will provide a big boost for local industry and job opportunities, but for residents of East Tilbury it could be the start of a long nightmare.

We're already witnessing the disruption to the Manorway junction off of the A13 with the construction of the new junction but that's just the start of potential disruption and disturbance for residents of East Tilbury, as train movements in and out of the port could cause the level crossing to be closed for long periods.

The Forum has discussed this a lot and tried to bring pressure on DPWorld and Network rail to recognise the drastic effect on residents and  provide either a bridge or tunnel under the railway.

Our local councillors Barry Palmer and John Purkiss recently attended a Rail Summit meeting chaired by our MP Stephen Metcalfe with councillors, community leaders and representatives from DP World, Network Rail and C2C regarding the impact on the area with DP World using the railway to transport containers that will be unloaded at the port on freight trains 500m long.  To start with there would be 4 movements in and 4 out increasing to 12 each way by 2018.

As has been discussed many times at our Forum meetings this will have a great impact on East Tilbury cutting the area off for a large amount of time to residents and the emergency services.  Our local councillors stressed to the Rail Summit that the biggest problem is East Tilbury and another route has to be found out of the area.  Another meeting will be held in June.
